Romanticism: the quality or state of being impractical or unrealistic; romantic feelings or ideas.
In this series, I am exploring the recklessness and romanticism that spreads like wildfire among the youth. Inside us is a desire to experience, fueling a journey to find one’s identity and place in the world. The youth possesses a kind of audacity that differs from a child’s, and is much more present than an adult’s. It is a tightrope walk between the desire for autonomy and the necessity of dependency. It is unrealistic to be 100% self dependent at this stage in our lives, yet we all fantasize about answering only to ourselves. On the other side of the spectrum, there is also a comedown from that wild high. After every wild weekend, there must be a return to reality. I have featured the young women most pivotal in my life, who are going through the same struggle yet in such polar opposite ways, to be recurrent stories in my body of work.
